VP44 (Rotary Pump) Longevity
I just had an interesting conversation with a Cummins mechanic about the VP44 Pump. He was saying that the life expectancy of the pump was around 100,000 -150,000 miles (with the extremes either way). He said the design of any "Rotary Style" pump lent itself to a shorter life than say the P7100 (which by his account was near bullet proof). Besides monitoring fuel pressure at the lift pump, any other way to make these pumps last longer?
Thanks

I got 160K out of my original. Geico has 180K on his original... That is longer than most of us would keep a gasser so I'm not complaining.
I just got my Blue Chip VP installed today and I am going to run the shizzle out of it in the next year while it is still under warranty. I probably won't get much more than 60K on it, but that will surely put it through the wringer!

I add Power Service to every tank of fuel. Mine seems to purr right along. Trust me when I say I do not baby this truck. Monday I was pulling 14,000 pounds of hay around like nothing. Not bad for 180K miles on a stock auto tranny and original IP.
