Longevity of engine with fueling box?
I am wanting to add a fueling box in the near future but, am a little gunshy of what the extra heat and fuel will do to the engine in terms of longevity. Does anyone have any information? If so it would be appreciated.
Well technically the more fuel you run through the negine the shorter the lifespan. That being said, it will not be in any life time that you would worry about. The lifetime of the engine is generally based on the amount of fuel burned. You will never reach that point though.
I think as long as you keep the EGTs down, ie, rarely go over 1200, at least not sustained, you should get good life out of your engine. I have read of BOMBed trucks running well for 300-400K, others that have been run hard are tired at 200K.
One guy with a 12-valve on TDR had his power cranked, and he drove the snot out of it, and at 140,000 it was shot. Had to rebuild it. He ran his EGTs too high. . .takes a toll after awhile.
I am debating with myself how high I want to go power-wise; This truck has to last me a lot of miles. Right now my final target is 350-375 rwHP, enough to have fun with, yet still get good life out of the motor with responsible driving. Right now with my PDR Bomber Lite turbo, ATS manifold, 4" exhaust and TAG, I am pretty happy with my power just running stock fueling. And this is a guy who used to run a '01 with DD2s and vA box.

From reading others experience in this forum it seems to run the range from days to life as expected without the box. It seems prudent to consider other parameters besides just EGT when considering engine life. I don't have the link handy but when looking for data on diesel engine life one site on marine diesels noted that extended full throttle operation cut engine life dramatically, to something like 1/4 to 1/5 of normal operation.
