Re:Straight Or Mufflered for 03

I have a straight pipe on mine. I had my muffler taken out and a piece of 4" pipe put in place. I will worn ya'll it is loud, and there is some resonance which is very loud while towing. Turbo spooling is quicker, I have also taken the tube silencer out and the silencer ring out. I would not recommend it if you are worried about noise. Anyone with questions about my setup feel free to PM me. Kyle

From what I've heard, the 03's sound kinda rice-ish when they are straight piped. I haven't heard one in person. I'm just relaying what I'm told. With that said, I've got 4" turbo to tail straight piped dumped on my 01 and it is wicked loud and sounds awesome. ;D

Turbo59,

We had done a number of them while we were setting up our 2003 Dodge system, the overal feeling was "no thanks" by most of the truck owners and folks involved in the prototype process. That said there's room for everybodies opinions, that's why they make trucks in more than one color etc.

Mark @ DPPI

My neighbor just straight piped his 03 and it sounds like crap compared to a 2nd gen Cummins. It sounds WORSE than a ricer

For some reason, the 2nd gen sounds awsome and the 3rd gen sounds like crap when straight piped.

I wonder why? ???

Have a couple of straightpiped '03's running around town here...both in lawn care business I think ??? when they have any kinda load on them they sound A LOT better. Unloaded they sound to raspy.

First one I ever heard was a Quad Cab 2x4 3500 with a 20+Ft horse trailer on the back loaded. It sounded 8) 8) 8)

Right.... the straightpiped 03 still sounded way better than a straightpiped Powerjoke or Duramax
