Stacks on, starting to rust already?

After months of zero free time I finally got my stacks on. Ive never gotten so many people staring at my truck before. . But It rained a few days here after I put them on and certain places are staring to rust already? Mostly around the welds in the Y pipe, on spot around a clamp in an elbow and a small scratch on one of the stacks that I didnt see till it rusted. Everything is chrome parts from Berube's and all stainless steel clamps. Is there a way to combat this rust and retain the looks? I was thinking chrome polish the rust off and then coat the affected areas with hi-temp engine clear-coat? Any ideas or sugestions at this point would be greatly appreciated.
Evil

I'll get some pics of my stacks up shortly as I'm having wisdom teeth removed tommorrow and dont expect to be too mobile for a few days.(you gotta love percoset)

Re:Stacks on, starting to rust already?

My stacks have been on for about eight months now and no rust at all. I use glass cleaner on mine to remove the film and all that. The Y pipe I got is not chromed, it is just coated. I painted everything below the chrome with black hi-temp engine paint. You can go to page 2 of the Member Photos section and look under Dieseldude's Pics and Hobbies to see what mine look like.

I also painted the piping to the stacks with black high temp spray paint. I have had no problems with rusting in the past 6 months.

Monty

I had stacks on my first gen that I used to own and they rusted. When I saw the rust I got some really fine steel wool and got all of it polished off then I put a coat of Mother's car wax on them and it seemed to stop it.

I have had mine on sine July 1 of 2002. No rust any place. I did paint the non-visible parts with high temp paint. I wash them every week to get the blow by off them and put a coat of wax on every 6th wash. I want them to stay perfect.

I did the same as most on here did. One thing different, I never wash my smoke ring. I like it when it covers the wholetop of the stack. I get lots of looks.
DM01

Hello,
Put about 4 coats of wax on it. Painting works in non visable areas but clear coat is not a good idea with high heat.
Jeff

I've heard that on chorme you can polish out the rust by pouring some Coke onto tin foil and pub it into the rust. I dont know if it realy works though.
