Specialty Tools?

I'm finally ready to upgrade the performance of my truck from my Banks Power Pack, and wondered what kind of specialty tools are required. Which tools have ya'll purchased, and where?

I've seen where Snap-on sells a reasonably priced timing set, but I'm wondering how much other stuff I'll need - an injector puller, diesel compression tester, various shaped, "nice to have" wrenches, etc.?

Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions!

If your already looking at Snap On , Then keep looking at the catalog under diesel , it will suggest all the tools they sell that fit your truck .
If you thinking about the $200-300 range than that would assume you already have some of the basics and specialty wrenchs , the complete set if you are starting fresh [ beside the average tools ] is about $900-1,000 , keep search until you see that dollar amount under sets/kits , you should see a chart that goes across the top with yrs/12v/24v/ect. , then down the side with tool name & # , below that & next page , a discription of tools & uses .
I'll try to find the link .
Find a Snapy truck driven around and get a catalog , much easyer and more info , free .

Thanks John. That's one of the other sets I was looking at, but I wasn't sure I'd have much use for some of the tools included in the set. I was kinda thinking I could improvise with some of the stuff I already have. On the flip side, if "having the right tool for the job" can save me time and frustration, then that changes everything!

If your talking about doing timing , you could use most of that , I'ld have to go over the list to see what you could eliminate , the compression tester & adapter , injector puller & adapter , but those will come in handy in the future if you do much of your own work .
I think you would still be looking at $500 .

A barring tool (engine rotating tool) is a must for any Cummins owner. Ebay has them last time I checked or Snapon.com, or any place that carries OTC tools.

The cummins dealer is also a good place to get cummins specific tools , and they are actually not that bad on price, i got my barring tool from cummins , cheapest one i have found to date.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your thoughts. Hopefully I can catch up with one of the local snappy guys and the Cummins dealer soon.

I cant beleive how much that stuff costs. I looked at the 24V parts and I'm sorry but there isn't a tool in there that is work the price.

I bought my timing set off ebay, it was pretty inexpensive and works great... you don't need an injector puller... only other "must have" is a barring tool

Thanks guys. I sure would hate to spend big bucks on a bunch of stuff that might not be necessary. Goodness knows I already have plenty of tools in the chest that have seen very limited use.
