"special" tools for injector job
Hi. I'm getting ready to put in a set of aftermarket injectors in my '02 CTD. But the manual says I've got to have a couple of DC special tools. One looks like a small cylindrical drum, and it's used to remove the fuel injector connector tube. Not quite sure how that works. Another is threaded stud with a nut on it, and it's used to remove and install the injector. I can see that. Maybe a bolt would work instead.

I've looked at the Dodge Ram Tech site, but they're calling for small screwdrivers to pry these things out. It's going to be a bit tough to do that on the #5 and #6 injectors, all the way to rear and under the cowling, whether the lift ring is removed or not.

Anyone have a better way, or suggestions? Maybe what size bolt to use, or something? Thanks!

Ascraeus

a small screwdriver [4" or so like the pocket clip ones] works great..another would be a small pick [dentist style]
the long bolt from the air horne fits the injector and gives ya something to grip ... I have used a pair of pliers and just wrap the oval open area of the plier jaw around the bolt and a wrench / small ball pien hammer to tap on the pliers jaw and wala it's loose
PULL THAT TUBE FIRST !!!! just needs to come out a little bit to clear the injector
NO EXTRA TOOLS NEEDED for this job that you stated above.......but a short 19mm wrench or a 19mm flair fitting crows foot wernch is handy for #6 injector line but not manditory
another thing....make sure you get the copper washer from the old injector bottom out...and you'll need a bit of assembly grease to hold the new washer on the tip of the new injector
.....all else pretty straight up

Gary's right on the mark-we modded a 3/4" (real close to 19mm) wrench a little to make torquing #6 a little easier but other than that (and the 19mm crowfoot that I had bought before) nothing special is required.

Jason
Re:"special" tools for injector job
I saw a guy disconnect the injectors then he cranked the starter, launched them babies right on out of there no fuss no muss!. Don't know that I would recommend it, but it worked.

I would be a bit more careful with my own, but he said it sure does wonders for that one stubborn one you come across
