Quick Question

So, my Fuel Plate arrived today and I'm killing to get this thing in and going, but I've got a problem. I have class at 6 and don't get out til' around 9. How long is it going to take me to install this bad boy? Can I knock it out tonight?

The biggest problem can be getting the breakoff screw out of the inboard forward hole for the AFC. It can come right out or give you troubles. I've heard of guys using a torx bit after drilling the hole and an impact driver or using a chisel point to back the screw out. Both will work it just takes patience. After that it's less than a 10 minute job.

You'll want to mark the original placement of the stock plate. Just hold a straight edge at the front of the plate and use a scratch awl to scribe a faint line. Comes in handy later when you can't remember how much you've moved things. You can use a square shaft screw driver with a wrench on the shaft to easily loosen the two hold-down screws for the plate. Just snug things up, the casting is aluminum.

Also, don't use the breakoff screw that they give you. Trust me, you'll want back into the housing to tweak the plate. Start out in the stock position and then work from there.

As always, plan for the worst and hope for the best. Don't drop anything into the pump and you'll be fine. Good luck.

Paul

After having done it a few times, I could install a fuel plate in probably 45 minutes or so.

For the first timer, I would set aside 1 1/2 - 2 hours and you should be all set.

Get a GSK and timing bump and you really won't recognize it

Glad you got it done, and it is amazing how much it changes things, definately a change for the better...

Just for reference, I have found that having a good chisel and taking the #5 and 6 injector lines loose to access the breakoff screw is the easiest way to do it. Sometimes it is worth the extra effort to move things around instead of the pain and time of trying to work around them.

The are two ways to change the timing. The first is to adjust the timing pin on the drivers side of the engine. The second way (which is more accurate if your timing jumped) is to get a dial indicator and measure the distance on the #1 plunger on your pump when #1 cylinder is at TDC. There are timing charts that will give you degree readings for what ever your measurement is. There are a lot of tool companies (snap on) that make a timing kit. Snap on has a very nice one.
