quick question for those who have ordered trucks.
quick question for those who have ordered trucks.
I'm gonna order mine tomorrow morning, but today, a saleman told me that I would pay the invoice price in effect upon delivery. I was under the (false I guess) impression that I would know what this baby would cost ahead of time and pay the invoice cost upon ordering. Since it's so close to the end of the year, I guess I could get hit with a substantial invoice increase in January. IMHO, this sucks, but what's a poor boy to do?
When you folks ordered, did you know the cost up front or is the saleman right and I'm at the mercy of DC and the invoice price the day the rig rolls off the line?
Oh, and one more thing. Any tips for ordering are appreciated, such as how to I make sure the dealer puts it in as a customer order rather than an inventory order?

Good questions, soundbrz. ;D

You pay for your truck at delivery. And, that price CAN be negotiated. My dealer sold me my truck at our agreed-upon invoice price though that price had increased $300 since the time I ordered.

The good point is, even if you are held responsible for any price increases, you also get any incentives in place at the time of delivery. I was lucky enough for the current $1000 incentive to have kicked-in just 3 days before my truck got in. 8) Just to see if my dealer was ethical, I waited to see if HE brought it up before the papers were signed - he did.

I predict the incentives will get better by the time you get your truck. Pray, my friend...
;D

You'll know if it's a customer order 'cause the dealer can, and should, print off the order with your name on it. That way, the window sticker on your new truck will say... "Made for soundbrz" like all customer-ordered trucks do.

My truck was made in Satillo and took exactly 65 days from the day the order was placed 'till I picked her up at the dealer.

Best to y'all
Bill

SoundBrz,

I signed a deal that was Invoice minus 1%. The price has gone up since I ordered the truck but not that much (~$135). Some items actually went down a little
. I will get the price at the time the truck's invoice is created which is just after it is built.

Although we all have had bad experiences with a dealer sometime in the past, I would suggest you don't start out your relationship with the dealer with an attitude that he is trying to stick it to you. Thus far I have been quite pleased with my dealer and plan on continuing that relationship long after the truck gets here.

Just my .02

I ordered my truck June 28th, long before anyone knew what the trucks "might" cost. Agreement was invoice. He showed me the invoice at closing time. How much better do you expect than invoice minus whatever incentives that might be in effect? Seems to me you would smile all the way to the bank with that deal. I did. There comes a point when we all must realize the guy must make some profit or he will not be there the next time you want to order a new truck.

Bob
Re:quick question for those who have ordered trucks.
I didn't mean to sound like I was complainin' - I'm quite happy to pay what's necessary. I just have a certain amount set in my head to spend, that's all.

Thanks for your quick replies! Now we'll know just what to expect when we go in there tomorrow. I'm trading in a 3 month old 1500 quad cab, which we bought to tow our 20 Mallard travel trailer. When we decided it wasn't enough truck to do anything more than a few occasional weekends, well, one thing led to another, and here we are. Being an old airplane driver, I just wanted to stay ahead of the power curve ;D guess with this truck, I am the power curve
Re:quick question for those who have ordered trucks.
The deal I got was invoice price (plus a little) at the time I ordered it MINUS any incentives that might come up from that point until the time it arrived. The $1000 cash back incentive wasn't being offered when I ordered my truck but was when I picked it up so I got it. I thought that was pretty nice.
Re:quick question for those who have ordered trucks.
soundbrz, I ordered mine on June 25th. Like FiverBob I agreed to a price not know the exact dollar amount. (Mine was Invoice + $75.) My Truck was built on August 12th. It was not shipped until Sept 6th. The Truck was invoiced to the dealer as of the date of shipment. I took delivery on October 8th.
Seldom would the cost of materials remain constant over any three month period.

When I ordered I budgeted a price increase over 2002 model of up to $1200. I was surprised by only $350 increase.

Every vehicle I have ordered I have agreed to accept any price adjustment to invoice after the order was placed. I believe it is the only way to do business that is fair to you the buyer and the selling dealer. The dealer can't control the invoice price. Why should he get stuck with a deal that he has no control over?
