Is this possible

I would first like to say hello, I have been thinkin about buying a 98 ext cab 4x4 with a 12v. I want it to run in the mid to high 12's but need to drive it 150 miles a day for work w/o high egt's. Is this possible? I would like to put a suncoast tranny in it but not sure which one. As far as the motor a set of injectors, bye bye fuel plate and adjust the timing, maybe even some dv's. Thank you.

Do you tow or live at high elevation? If not it should be doable.

Why no plate, Jim Fulmer and Mad Dog run them, with way more power than you are looking at...

Smoke will hurt mileage, and on a daily driver, you could use those fuel savings, at 150 miles a day, and build a sweet truck. Build for power and the smoke will come, more than you could ever want. You're gonna need 500 HP to hit 12's, so look around at guys putting down 500 HP and copy.

The company pays for my fuel, not worried about fuel. I live in Lakeland. Ok maybe I dont need to be in the 12's but atleast 13's should I be able to acomplish this with the planned mods above, if so what should I replace in the tranny. Thank you everybody

If you want 12s you are gonna need a built auto, with billet shafts to survive 20 psi boosted launches...

As far as running without a plate, I have been told (from member infidel who has forgotten more about the 12v than most of us will ever know) that the arm can bind up and snap... Even if it is an old wives tale as some claim I'd rather not risk it since you can still make BIG power with a plate.

Twins would give you very streetable power, 500hp with low EGT's for sure. Just because your company pays for fuel doesn't matter, I'd still go for a motor that is relatively economical. My father has driven my 325hp truck lately as I've been on the road, and he's gotten 22 mpg three tanks in a row. Granted, he drives like a grandpa, but you can still do good with power.

I'd say build it to make a clean 500hp with twins, get 18 mpg or so on the highway, and then kick tail at the drag strip.

try to aim for less smoke and more power. smoke is unburned diesel, which means that its being waisted. and with 500 hp you will have more smoke than you want.
