Possible Problems
I'm getting ready to travel to Florida to fix up my Dad's diesel van. I've never owned a diesel, so don't really know what to expect from a vehicle that hasn't been started in about nine months, and hasn't been driven in over a year. Can anyone give me heads up on problems I might be encountering, or any resources that would be useful to someone who knows only the bare minimum about diesel engines? It's a 1990 Cummins.

Thanks a lot

Re:Possible Problems
I'd go through all fluids. Brakes might be siezed/frozen. Tires might need attention, Hopefully it was stored inside. The fuel injection pump might be gummed up some, so I would remove the fuel filter and fill a new filter with Stanadyne additive. Fill the filter full and then install. Stanadyne will not hurt the injection pump. It will free up anything that is sticking. There are others here who will know what else to check. Last thing I can think of is the air filter. Watch out for a mouse nest.
John
