Muffler on Diesel

This will be my first inspection next month on my 2002 dodge, and as I was under the truck, noticed there was no muffler, just a straight pipe to the back. Will this pass inspection?

This is kind of a touchy subject.
In ohio the law states that no motor vehicles exhaust system shall be modified other than factory condition.
Almost all the people on this site have a modified exhaust system.
Mine is modified, and I have never had the first bit of trouble out of the police.
Might I ask you why you want it to be inspected?

Technically that is a federal EPA reg...

But there are so many people running around w/o mufflers it aint funny. Myself included untill recently.

Where are you? Most places it will pass. Especially if you know where to go.

Sorry, I am in Texas, and a vehicle inspection is required annually.

Technically, a turbo is considered a muffler device.

Thumbs up

I used to live in Stephenville and Weatherford inside the DFW EPA zone which is supposed to be very strict. I never had any trouble passing emissions w/o my muffler.

Yeah, but I doubt an inspector would consider it sufficent... It is altered from stock...

You should be fine, Texas is the land of the straight pipe diesel. It should pass the sniffer easily if it is stock.
