Intake plate for 1st gen.
I want to build an less restrictive intake plate (like the Banks Twin Ram) for my 1st get. Anyone tried it? The heater seems restrictive, but I can't get rid of it. I was thinking about just putting it on one leg.
The intake plenum on the first and second generation trucks is identical. So, what works for one will work for the other. If you want a very unrestrictive intake horn, get the unit for the 12 valve 190 - 230 horse medium truck and industrial Cummins engine.
I would not know why you need the heater grids in Mexico. I live in Oregon and do not have either them or the fuel heater on mine, and it always starts. It may take a couple to whacks at the starter to get it to go at zero, but it always goes!

Thanks for the tip on the Industrial intake horn. I will try to track one down.
By the way, I'm in New Mexico, USA and I live at 7,000 ft. We have already had 2" of snow and it's been freezing every night. It's butt cold up here!

The Bank$ twin ram puts one heater on each leg of the intake, which seems to me to be a good way to do it.
As far as the heater grids being necessary- I can't plug in at work, my grids are not working due to a fried relay. The truck started fine all last winter, the coldest unplugged start was 17 degrees, coldest plugged in start was around 10. The unplugged 17 degree start required about 5 seconds of cranking. Until you get into subzero temps they are just emission control devices.
