Install Boost Elbow on Auto Tranny?

I just got a Superchips EZ box put in. WOW! It's an amazing difference!

I want to know if there's a way to install the boost elbow on the turbo - I have an auto tranny. I see the stainless steel boost elbow and line that's in there now - could I just remove that, get a few fittings and some hose from the local hardware store, and install the new boost elbow that came with the kit? The new one looks like 1/4" NPT, is that the same as the old one? Haven't had the opportunity to get into the truck to look.

As I understand, the old one is set at 22 psi, new one at 28 psi. Will the extra few lbs of boost put additional stress on the engine or turbo in any way? That little extra boost will lower EGTs, right?

Thanks again guy,
Brian

If it has a rubber hose on it put the boost elbow on, but i think that you will need to turnbuckle it on that year.
do a search on here to find out.
good luck

Um...not liking the turnbuckle idea, especially with no boost or EGT gauges. I think I'll stick with stock for now.

You need gauges. Boost and Pyro so you know what's going on with you engine. You are gambling with an expensive engine adding more fuel w/o gauges.

Plus I don't believe the SC has boost fueling. So just turnbuckling wouldn't help you. But it won't hurt to run a turnbuckle, many do because without any problems...

I pretty much sumarized that I would be okay with just a chip (Superchips D-box). Bottom line is that I don't have the time or money to install pyro and boost gauges right now. And I'll really be able to use the extra mileage and power towing cross country in about a month.

Sounds to me like running a turnbuckle is a gamble with an expensive engine too!

I run with a turnbuckle and a 42Lb. spring from home depo with this combo it will open at 30lbs and spike at 34Lb, with out the spring ive seen 44Lb
if your box doesn't have a boost fooler you may gain 1 or 2 Lbs. but no more than that the truck will defuel

I have a superchips D-box, which I've heard is the same as an Edge EZ. Does it have a boost fooler?

If it plugs into the map sensor it likely does. I have an auto truck, and I got a J-hook and installed that. BD power makes it. Holds the wastegate closed beyond the 19-21 psi a stock one will (they say it goes to 26-28 psi). You will likely not need the "boost fooler". I needed one b/c my Superchips is the programmer type.

Boost is less of a gamble than high EGT's. Sure, if you get over 45 psi or so you put the headgasket at risk, but any time you add fuel, especially when towing, you risk EGT's getting too high. It costs a lot less time and money to install a pyrometer now than a melted piston will later. If I were you, I would put a pyrometer on ASAP, just for the peace of mind.
