Hx35 vs Hx40 downpipe?

Why cant one be used with the other with a little machine work and welding? I have not seen the 40 dp or the turbo so I dont know the difference. Thanks.

Take a look at a 04.5+ stock exhuast, they have a hx-40 "style" downpipe so you can compare. They are pretty different.

So there is no way to modify a removable part to adapt the two?

You could modify the HX downpipe with a 4" v-band flange and short radius piece of mandrel to make it work. A little cutting and welding should do the trick. Check ebay or the classifieds for pics of HX40 style downpipe to give you an idea.

Sure, you can make anything happen by fabricating something, but how much is your time worth? What are you wanting to accomplish with this downpipe debacle?

The HX or the HY35 have a 3.5 inch outlet. The HX40 is a 4 inch outlet. The 35's have a bend in the housing to let the pipe and flange go straight down at about a 45 degree angle. The 40 has a v band flange and exits the turbo straight back and the bend is then in the downpipe.

Instead of posting this why not spend the time (10 seconds?) looking for a picture of the hx40 downpipe/outlet, and decide if you can do it with your abilities

PDR sells this .http://www.piersdiesel.com/3540Adt.htm. I talked with them about it. They don't claim any performance gains, but it eliminates the restrictive stock elbow, so it can't hurt.

Hey Munchies, easy on the advice. Thanks for all the input. My question is based on the fact that I currently run a 35 but am looking at getting a 40 and was wondering if there was any way to save $100+ on a new downpipe. I have looked at the pictures, and can clearly see the difference but was not sure if anyone knew if there was a way to use the same downpipe for both turbos with some modifications. Simple inquisition is all.
