DD HX40, Bell H2E, PDR HX35, or PDR HX40

I need some expert advise, so I came to DieselTruckResource.com. I want to replace my stock turbo. What I've found in my price range is PDR HX35, PDR HX40, Diesel Dynamics HX40-16, or a used Bell H2E-16 Hybrid with a 16cm wastegated, I am also planning on adding DD3 injectors. I want better acceleration and less lag from a stop. I do heavy towing about once a month. What set up would you recommend?

Im running EDM 2's PDR 4 comp on 5 DTT transmission scotty 2 4" exhaust and this maxes my PDR 40 out I would go with a B series turbo from wildcat if I had to buy a new one.

I'd run the PDR 40 if I were you. Mine has about 75k miles on it and is still tight! It spools well, is tough, and will give you the performance and EGT break you'll be looking for.

Opps,

I have to agree with Banshee on this one.... I didn't look at all of your mods, I just assumed by your post that DD3's were the only mod. My vote is for the PDR-40.

Hawkeye:

I agree with "Jetpilot" and "banshee." IMO, the Piers
HX-40/16 is a great "all around" turbo for the H.P.
and torque range you will be in. I have had the
Piers HX-40, the regular housing B-1 and Kwikspool
housing B-1 on my 96' 12 valve and can tell you that
the Piers HX-40 performed the best! Stay within
the boost parameters ste by Piers (40-43lbs.) and
Piers turbo will give you excellent service and
durability. The one on my 12 valve now has around
35,000 miles with no problems at all!!

I just can't resist a turbocharger thread

KwikSpool B1B - faster spooling than _any_ 40 on the market, tougher, and able to generate the same pony (or more).

No matter what you decide, IMHO, forget the H2E. Despite Pius's magic, they really are a slow spooling dog.

Maybe these will help as well....

I found the 1600 degrees part in the second thread intersting but overall it was a good review of the PDR40.

You mentioned you pull "heavy" occasionally...If that is the case than you need to move ALOT of air...

Do not go below a 16 housing and my reccomendation is that of Jamie's, KSB1B! But it will cost...

A PDR40 and smaller injectors or go with the the DDHX40-16 or KSB1B and DDIII's for the fact that you do occasionally haul "heavy".

Really a perfect setup from what you describe you want is a set of twins... HX35/Ht3B and DDIII's almost no lagg at all and the ability to haul. You already own the top charger and the HT3B is relatively inexpensive.

My .02

I like the sound of JCL123's twins (HX35/Ht3B). Where can I find instuctions on the install?

Mark Kendrick makes those sets and I think he had some ready to go. I don't know if he sells a do it yourself kit or if you need to bring your truck to Ft Worth.

He is the guy that built my KSB1B/B2 set and did a great job and I know of several others he is doing right now too including a truck with some major mods including a triple setup.
