How Much Timing????
okay, i know another timing question
, but i just want to get it right, so basically i want to know how much timing should i advance the pump.
MODS done to engine as of now with stock turbo
-60lb springs and 4k rpm kit
-laser cut dvs
-4inch straight pipe
-12mm studs
-marine headgasket .10 over size
-valet switch
MODS when twins

Grind that plate
to a 100 once u get the twins, even now just grind it to a 10 plate and enjoy ur stock turbo a bit more, The stock plate, as ive said before is not the best for running full forward,
now far as your timing goes, since 16.5 blew ur HG, id go 15.5. Mine has just been good to me i guess.. But since ur gettin a marine over, why not just go to 16.5-18?

Any more than 16° and you'll loose too much low rpm power with the current mods. After the injectors you can decide about increasing timing.
A stock plate is good for ... well, stock. Add governor springs and peak hp jumps to around 3,000 rpm. Slide it forward and add to the problem.
Everyone has their own opinions on plate profiles. I think a #0 or #100 is too hot with governor springs. A #4 does trim the upper rpm fueling a bit, but still plenty hot. A #10 has a nice profile, but without injectors you have to slide it to get hp on a 160 or 180 pump.

sorry i didn't specify, i meant that i was going to run the #4 plate after i put the twins on, i wasn't sure if if putting the #4 plate on with out the twins would toast the turbo
.
im not sure if that was meant toward me, but i never blew my head gasket
but anyways, would 18 degrees of timing be a good thing or would that be pushing the limits on an un o-ringed head?? thanks for all the help guys.

With small injctors i wouldnt run any more than 18* or like said before you will notice the loss of low end power. I pulled an entire season with stock thinckness marine head gasket and studs at 21* advance turning 4k every pull with 45# of boost and no issues (between 15-20 hooks) It wasnt until the last pull of the year when I already knew i was gonna tear it down and oring anyway that i blew it, but that was on purpose kinda. i bumped timing to 28* and was pushing 60#s boost when it blew
