How can I get to about 450 HP?

I have a stock 2001 CTD auto with 135k on it, 355 gears and 315 Toyos.

It has been ok.. but it really needs both more power and gears for what I'm using it for.

The vp44 just took a dump, so since a have to dump some $$ into it I figure I'd like to bring it up to about 450 HP.. in the least expensive and most reliable manner.

What parts would I need to get to the 450 mark?

I think I can get 3.88 gears.

Hauling heavy trailers, and long distance 1000+ non stop hauls is what I'm unsing it for. Plus offroad for hunting. I'm a profressional hunter. So some offroad.

Gauges
Chip= Edge Comp, Adreneline,
AFE cold air intake
Set of F1 Mach 2.5 injectors or DDP 3's
12mm ARP Headstuds
II or HTT 62mm turbo
Good Trans or Clutch to hold the power
Good lift pump fuels system, MITUSA mechanical pump or AIR Dog/FASS pump

As for your gears you should be fine with your 3:55's these cummins have plenty of torque to get them moving, if you were to change them 4:10's would be a better jump.

I would like to stay with the factory 3.55 gears if I can?
I am runinng the 315=34.5" toyo's so just to get back to factory gearing I was thinking the 3.88's.

Do I really need to replace the turbo to get into the 400's?

Just looking for the least expensive way to get me where I want to go.

No you can make up to 440hp on the stock turbo but that will have alot of heat and if you are towing alot you will need some more air or you wont be able to use that power.

just my personal experience, but i get MUCH better drivability and mpg with ~350 hp. i ran at 435/1006 for a couple years and I had to watch the EGT constantly while towing. The transmission you need to keep 450hp under control will be $5k (auto guys chime in if I'm way off, but that seems to be a good round number from what I've read).
In-cab adjustable module of choice
S300 turbo variant
Mach2 or 2.5 F1 injectors
built trans

I think the guages are a given here.
So best guages..that tri-guage thing that goes on the column?
Any best manufactures on that piece?

How far HP can I go before replacing the turbo?

I'd really like to get into the 450 area, I'm pulling almost limit at 13k.

to tow heavy in the 450 neighborhood, you're going to need to address the turbo issue...

For a reality check, a stock CTD, 98.5-2002 puts down 180-200 Rear Wheel Horsepower stock. You cannot push a stock turbo, designed for that kind of power to 450 HP and tow with it. You can get anywhere from 400-445 HP quick spike on the dyno with the HX35, but you can't really tow with more than 350 HP to the ground at near 13K trailer. I don't think you can tow 13K with 450 to the ground and keep the coolant temps in check in the summer time without twin turbos and water injection for the hills.

Now you can buy a fueling box, such as the Quadzilla Adrenaline, with programable egt backdown so you can tow worry free with the box turned up. The box will then take away fueling on the hills and high load situations to keep your exhaust gas temperatures in check. There are other products that offer egt backdown, but none are as smooth are allow you maximum HP within specified temp. The Edge Juice, for example cuts back a ton of fuel when it hits the set egt limit and basically cuts all of your trucks power. The Adrenaline will keep fueling as hard as it can, so smoothly you can barely feel it cut back fuel.

hes right, my 01 6spd is at 380hp with a stock turbo (hx35)you have an hy35 with your auto and will not cool at that HP level my hx35 wont cool at WOT it will at about 32 psi towing a 17k trailer up a 6%+ grade. and the stock cooling system will not cool at 450 for towing on long grades. \

with the setup I have with f1 mach 1.6 and stock turbo its plenty to pull heavy and still let the radiator cool the engine at 450 you might think of twins
thats my.02 now im going to bed

I think you could have a heck of towing combo with a HX40 with a 14 housing, Mach 1.6s and and Edge EZ and not be out a whole bunch of money.

You could get an Edge Juice w/Attitude or the Quad box that incorporate gauges.

If I aim for 350 hp with the hx40 turbo and the mach 1.6 injectors,

what would be the most reliable fuel pumps to go with that?
