How long does it take to grind a fuel plate? What machines do you use? Just a Bench grinder? I have a milling machine surface grinder and lathe (If you could do it with those any faster)? what part of the plate do you grind and how much? THANKS

at work,iput a 100hp bd plate in some dudes truck,i drew a profile of it on cardboard so i could use it for future buddies,do you need something like that? iwould think a bench grinder maybe ok,if ya also polished the surface when done,im gonna check that dudes link......

 

The first time I did mine I used a Dremel, took forever. When I ground it to a 100, I used my right angle grinder, and smoothed it out with an old sharpening stone. Both ways worked, if I did it again I would just use the grinder and smooth it out. Way easier.

I use a 4" angle grinder with a 80 grit flapper wheel.
Takes less than a minute to make a #100 out of a stock plate.
A lot of people make this more complicated than it really is- it's not rocket science.

 

Amen. I used just a regular ol bench grinder on everyone i have ever did takes about 3 min from start to finish. Just make sure there are no burs ect and it'll be fine.

 

I mostly smoothed it out for myself... I wanted it to be nice and smooth, I am pretty picky like that. I was nervous about doing it the first time, but it really is no big deal at all.
