gear swap

I want to swap out my 4:10s for 3:55. Is this a stright up swap or do you have to change anything else???

I believe the break is above 4.10:1 on the carrier. So, 4.10/3.54 same carrier. You're in luck. Just ring gear and pinion change. I assume you have a Dana 80. You need more info in your sig. I think it's the best overall ratio for the 24V Cummins/ 6 speed NV5600. At 55 mph i'm turning 1600 rpm, right on peak torque. Freeway speeds are at 1900-2100 rpm, right in the 'sweet' range. Hauling my 16,000 lbs. of TC/T/JP/Trlr i get 15mpg at 57 mph.

im looking for 4.10 or even some 3.73 for my truck, pulling a 35 foot camper with 3.55 gears and 315 tires, it dont like it.

i think they are different carriers. and 2nd gens dont have stock (notice i say stock) 3.73 gear sets.

I would swap mine out but if i were to take them out in my driveway i dont know if i could put them back in. I could do it but i wouldnt want to screw any thing up.

if you do end up changing carriers, you'd have to do your backlash and all that stuff. Not the average lay-under-your-truck-in-the-drive-way job. got to have a couple special tools. (to do it right)
