Gear Swap
Gear Swap
I have a 2001 2500 auto with 3.55 gears and am towing just under 10K. I am seriously considering going to 4.10's because of the fact that I live in British Columbia and can't drive more than fifty miles without having to climb a mountain. Since I have had gauges installed and seen the temps I can get to as soon as the TC unlocks, I have serious doubts as to how long the transmission is going to last unless i do something. Has anyone else made this swap and how do they feel since doing it?

Re:Gear Swap
The rear should be a dana 80 not sure about the front but I had a 2 wheel 95 duallie and an 01 4x4 duallie and a 98 4x4 dualie and the rear axles have all been the same. I would bem willing to bet the fronts are the same. An axle swap would be a lot cheaper than replacing gears.
Re:Gear Swap
The front ends are Dana 60's. The rears on duallies are Dana 80s. Most 3/4 tons have Dana 70 rears. But, I understand that some have been fitted with Dana 80's. Mine is listed right under the hood. Open the hood and look up.
See ya! :

Re:Gear Swap
Maybe I can help clarify things about the rear axle. All the 3500's have the Dana 80, the 2500 manual's (5 & 6spd.) have the Dana 80, and the 2500 auto's have the Dana 70. I'm fairly certain they all have the Dana 60 front axle.

Trickytrae

Thanks for the offer but my truck only has 12,000 miles on it, so I will go for brand new gears. It is a 2WD and has a Dana 70. Found the info on a sticker on the inside of the glove box door.
