Rear Brakes

97' 3500 ext.cab Dually. I can not seem to get any braking out of my rear brakes. I have turned them down, cleaned and replaced mechanisms and springs. I set them up manually, and they grab for a few weeks, then nothing. I try the self-adjusters going in reverse and by depressing the e-brake. I have bled the lines, and they work when I remove the tires and inspect them on the hoist. It seems that all the braking is on the front, and I am warping rotors. Any suggestions. Thank you

Re:Rear Brakes

Sounds like you could have a sticking proportioning valve. Try this, open one of the front bleeders and slam the brake pedal to the floor, close bleeder and see if this helps. Sometimes if you bleed the back, the proportioning valve slams to the front side thinking that a rear line blew out.

Re:Rear Brakes

You may try to increase the size of rear wheel cylinders go to the cylinders for 3500. This in creases the bore size and adds to the amount of braking from rear. I went with EGR brake kit update and carbon kevlar pads and shoes. This made big braking difference.

Re:Rear Brakes

For my rear auto adjusters to function I have to use heavy braking while backing. I mean get on them and forget the usual easy braking while backing. Works for me ... one set of front pads at about 82K and I now have 106k on the clock.

Jerry
