Edge Comp Users

First I want you to know I'm in California.... I wanted to to install a set of Mach 1.6 injectors in my truck. I was talking to Ken, ( he owns a high performance diesel shop ) and he told me that the state is going to require a particulite smog test on trucks from 1998 and up. I believe he said it starts in 2011 or 2012... I can't remember. The problem with the injectors he said I would probably fail the smog test.. So I was thinking of buying a Edge comp. I would tow on 1 or 2 and play with the other settings when I'm not towing. I could remove the comp before I had to smog the truck, which for me is easier than removing or replacing injectors. My question for you comp users,:1: Are you happy with it? Has it created problems for your VP-44 having the wire tap? Do you like it for towing? I plan on upgrade my clutch next year to handle the HP... I will retire in a few years and I'll be leaving the state, but i want just alittle more HP now.. Any suggestions or comments are appreciated.

Swap injectors for the test.

In Washington we have emmissions testing. Not sure if you'll be measured the same as us, but we have a snap idle test and it checks for opacity.

Even with 200+Hp injectors and my Comp on 5x5, I passed with flying colors. It's not the test, but how you run it.

I've had my comp, mostly used in 5X5, and towed with it too in that setting. (just didn't "get on it"). Truck now has 89K. Installed at 50K. The VP 44 is now dead, I think. (truck is dead in driveway). For those 40K miles, it worked well. Liked it a lot. If the comp did or did not add to the failure at 89K...I think that is debatable. Wire was pinched. Original clutch was upgraded to a slightly more beefier one (original set of upgrades). But that is useless when I slam the pedal now. For the first month or so...I'd play around with it. But now...only occasionally.

Hope that helps.

ive had a edge comp going on four years now and havent had a problem yet. i tapped the wire as soon as i got it and the vp44 lasted approx. 60,000 miles before biting the dust. if you took it easy my stock clutch lasted fine. the only problems i seem to have run into was when i started stacking programmers with it. it caused me to shatter a trans input shaft. as far as towing i cant complain, ive towed loaded gravity grain wagons loaded and several other things and it seems to work great. i leave mine on 5x5 most of the time but my truck isnt a daily driver. i think that you cant go wrong with a edge. hope this helps.

1.6's are a clean injector that is perfect for towing. I wouldn't expect any problems passing the testing......

Thank you for your input. I think I'll go with the 1.6's and see what happens.

I've had my comp on for about year now. I'm at 110k now and have it tapped since install. Love it for towing as I can turn it down and my DD1s I can't hit more than 1250EGT even with with HY9 turbo. I'd recommend it!

I put my comp on with wire tap at 130k, I now have 175,000 miles on my factory original vp with no problems, I tow every day (7,000-25,000lbs) on 2x5 ( I get the best milage at this setting), when I unhook from the trailer I turn it up to play every now and then, I love this box!!!!
