did I mess up my transmission?
I was drag racing last night and for some reason when I staged and had 15psi built up, the light took longer than usual to start, while I was cursing at the light I glanced at my trans temp gauge and it was pegged at 280. its a goerends trans with the double deep pan. it still drives great and my following runs were the same as before. just thought it was bad for the fluid to get that hot. think I should worry about it? still smells like trans fluid.

As long as it still looks and smells like tranny fluid (and not like clutch) you should be OK- the problem with high temps is that the sensors and solenoids hate it (and cause weird shifting which in turn damages the tranny) and in the long run hot tranny fluid ages quicker than cooler tranny fluid.
I'd dump the fluid soon and take a look into the pan. Most likely the tranny survived without damage.

you should be alright. just change out the fluid as soon as you can. i believe the magic number for clutch material breakdown is around 330*. not exactly sure but its right around there. but its not like that if your trans gets that hot for a minute that its going to be destroyed. as long as you let it cool down right after and change the fluid youll be fine.

Change the fluid and you should be ok. The last thing you want to do is run burnt fluid in your transmission; that will kill it more quickly than overheating it. Burnt fluid doesn't lubricate!!! If you're not running synthetic fluid you should be,because it will handle high temps much better and not break down as quickly from heat
