Boost Question

I installed an adjustable boost elbow last week when I received my Smarty. The most boost I have seen so far is aroung 22.5 psi. Before Smarty and the elbow I was seeing around 18.5 psi.

Does this sound about right considering I have stock injectors, or, should I be seeing more boost??

I plan on doing injectors soon, I just want to make sure I don't have a boost leak.

Thanks
Brad

what setting are you running the Smarty on??

I would think that 22.5 is pretty low for the more aggressive downloads...

since you have an adjustable elbow, have you tried making any adjustments on it? I have an EZ and DD3's(100+hp) and I can see 37+psi. Saw 32 psi with just the EZ. Although I don't have any experience with the Smarty, it would seem that using #9 would produce more than 22.5 psi. Maybe try posting the same question in the thread about Smarty Comments... if I remember, some guys are seeing 28 psi with their new toy...

my truck is an HO....with the stock injectors, stock boost elbow and the truck on bone stock programming...i get about 22.5 to 23 psi at the manifold...with the 275 injectors i get about 24 psi with the stock boost elbow and stock programming....with the trucks programming on stage 3 and the injectors and stock boost elbow i get about 25-26 psi at the manifold.

with the wastegate plugged up i get about 40 psi at the manifold...my clutch slips bad and i get an overboost code.

either your pressures are low...or mine are high...or the SO and HO trucks boost pressures are different by more than I thought

I've got the adjustable elbow tightened as far as it will go. Maybe I have a boost leak.

I thought with stock elbow the wastegate would open at around 20 psi. So, how could you get 25 psi without modifying the boost elbow/wastegate in some way.

According to this page the boost numbers I am getting is right
check it out....http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/Facts/01ISBspecs.html

26 psi at turbo outlet....I have heard that you lose 2-3psi through your intercooler....so 22.5-23 psi at the manifold on a totally stock HO would be right

My guess is if all you're seeing is 22psi you either have a boost leak or your wastegate is hanging up partially open.

Try locking your wastegate shut for an experiment and see what your boost numbers are. On #9 ( full catcher ) you should be seeing somewhere in the 30's............if you are seeing less than that you more than likely have a boost leak.

With that boost elbow you should be in the 30's

Sorry for the dumb questions, but how would I lock my wastegate shut. I've never messed with a turbo before.

Also, I bought a pipe plug last night, should I just use it instead of the adjustable elbow?

Thanks

You can use the pipe plug........it might work better than the elbow....not real sure as I've never tried one.

And to lock the wastegate shut, I went to Lowes and bought a turnbuckle that I hooked to the arm on the wastegate and attached the other end to ( anything solid ) and just crank the turnbuckle tell it's nice and tight and WAAA LAAAA!!!! Either that or you can take a strong piece of wire and wire it shut REALLY tight if you are just gonna test it real quick.

OK. Looks like I'll need to investigate further. Thanks for the advice. I'll post whatever I find. It may be this weekend though.
