Bhaf?

ok when i removed the air box I really didnot notice and more turbo noise but that was becuase i had the windows down. then one day it was raining so i had the windows up and thats when i noticed it. so now i go everywhere with my windows up and the AC on. lol. but thats not what i posted for. im askign about the BHAF. i see alot of posts abuot it but when i go to NAPA do i jsut say i want a Big honking air filter or does it have another name. also about how much will it cost. and will it really give more turbo noise?

p.s. I dunno if any of yall remember me tellign you abut my friends duramax 2004 but he called me up the other day and said it was spitting raw diesel outta the exhaust. HAHAHHAHAHAHA Cummins outlasted another diesel. SO i dont really guess this duramax is goginto suck me up and spit me out. unless im raw diesel fuel. he went and buoght a brandnew 2005 ford f-350 now. so he can Fix or repair daily now. hahaha. I lvoe the dodge/mopar one. Massivly Over Powered And Respected.

You will need the part number. Cost is around 50 bucks. And yes you will hear a lot more turbo noise if you remove the silencer ring if you haven't removed it already. Here are the part numbers for several different brands :

Fleetguard AH19037
NAPA 2790
WIX 42790
Donaldson B105006
Baldwin PA2820
Hastings AF1012

I never heard that defenition for Mopar but who am I to argue?

As for the filter if you told them you wanted a bhaf they'd probably just laugh as they wouldn't know WTH you were talking about. Yes the turbo's harmony will be even more distinct with a BHAF. I'll see if I can dig up a part number, oops looks like I lost the draw.

Matt, the stock turbos on the 1st gen trucks are really quiet. When I went to a BHAF I didn't notice much difference in sound. Now with the turbo off a '94 on the truck I can hear it.

Check with any of your local Big Rig parts places too. I bought the Baldwin PA2820 from a Fleetpride truck parts place for $34.00 when the NAPA place wanted over $50. They did have to order it, but it was worth the 3 day wait. NAPA would have had to oder it also. I also picked up fuel filters for $8.00 while I was there.

Yeah, it's as easy as it sounds. Loosen the clamps on the intake hose on both the turbo and airbox ends and remove the hose. Pop the silencer ring retention ring out and then pull out the silencer ring. Next, the BHAF: Pop the top off the airbox, remove the filter, unscrew the three nuts that hold the bottom half of the box onto the fender. Junk the box and stock filter. Clamp the hose onto the new filter and clamp the other end of the hose back onto the turbo. Once you have the BHAF sitting where the old airbox used to be, tighten it all down. Took me maybe fifteen minutes total, including a beer .

you have to screw the new filter down to the inner fender right? do you use the same screws that held the air box down? i've already taken my silencer ring out awhile back and noticed a big difference, but i want the BHAF to increase the noise some more.

As far as I know, it does not need to be screwed down. I don't really see how it could move. Mine's not screwed down...

Mine's not fastened down, the upper lip of the filter just presses slightly into the hood liner.

All you need is the part # listed earlier. On your truck you're going to want a BHAF mount to keep the filter dry when it rains, see Bumpytruck's photo gallery for a template.

It's 10 1/2 inches in diameter by 11 inches deep, and is designed to clamp on a 4" pipe.

I think you might find some pics of a first gen with one in the Photo Gallery section by doing a search for BHAF or try doing a search in the first gen section because I it will have to be mounted differently from the second gens.
