Banks high ram intake
Just a quick question. Been checkin out the Banks high ram intake and it looks cool.....but is it worth the money? I mean other than exhaust mods and BHAF, guages will it be worth buying on a stock truck? I plan on doing injectors(maybe) and a smarty in the future....end of warranty...but will it help on a stock truck. I assume it will help on a truck with more mods, but stock?
I guess what I am doing is the small stuff while I'm under warranty, then do some bigger things after that. I just wonder if it will benefit the engine at all if I do it now? Saw the Banks on ebay for like $305 and have been selling on ebay for a month so I have a little money banked up now.
What are your thoughts??

Agreed, save your money for real power adders.....$305 goes a long way towards injectors or your favourite fueling module. Even heavily modified rigs have shown no power increase on the dyno with the high ram. I agree with Mike, if it were a looks only bomb, it sure would look a lot cooler if it did have that huge Banks logo on it!

I guess that $305 would be better suited for the vulcan kit, and the smarty then.....
By the way, I read in here the talk about the "bug fogger" option on the smarty....what is that? I kinda look forward to that option when joe jackazz is tailgating me and my trailer

What you will see is a 50*F to 100*F EGT drop at part throttle at say up to about 15 pounds boost (without changing anything else).
Others who've opened up the bottle-neck situation found at the OEM intake horn report the same thing.
It's my guess it's a result of being able to get more air in the engine with lower boost by what amounts to porting of the air intake track.
At full throttle, no-load, you'll most likely not see any difference.
While it's a good question as to whether it's cost effective, it is a good mod if you're having EGT problems on a work truck IMHO.
Friends, all would do well to get over assumptions about a Banks product (or any other for that matter) with NO first hand knowledge.

Speaking for myself, I don't need to have first hand knowledge of a Banks product to tell him that on a stock truck it (Banks High Ram) will make NO difference... No flame or assumption intended...
Although, if you speak with the Banks "marketing machine" you'll hear different...

Although, if you speak with the Banks "marketing machine" you'll hear different...As far as a stock truck goes, I can't help but agree, there'll most likely not be any discernible improvement anywhere. But a work truck application may prove otherwise.
Marketing Machine? . . . . . . Yup. After all, it is the sizzle that sells the steak, otherwise, it's just a cow.

But Banks makes a quality, well thought out product for the individual who doesn't have the time or ability to piece together a more cost effective solution.

And in certain instances, if one can find specific parts cheap, then they're a good addition to a "System".
