is the ats manifold worth the money? need some input.

I have been thinking about putting on an ats manifold when I do my turbo up grade and was wondering if it is worth the money if there is nothing wrong with it (not cracked). If it is a good mod and will help improve the exhaust flow that much I will fork up the money, but I need to here from you guys first that it will help.

Thanks.

They really don't help with performance, but it will last forever. Replace the stock now or you'll be doing it later. If your stock is good it'll sell for 100 now, nothing when it cracks.

I beg to differ Rickcj. I installed my ats three peice wicked bad manifold about six months ago and noticed a major drop in egt spicks. Also it slightly changed the exhaust note. All at once I did a manifold and turbo... All i can say is wow! The higher rpm power came alive. It was a totally different truck after the turbo AND manifold. Its just now I am jadded about it and expect mondo horse power from the ol girl. So its always a hunt for my next major mod. But soooo exspensive... any way I love my ats gear alot.

Well if you replaced the turbo I sure hoped you noticed a drop in EGT. The manifold alone won't change much!

I didn't notice any difference when I installed my ATS. Perhaps this is because I already had twins. Looking at the manifold though, I think it could have used some porting, at least gasket matching, but I didn't feel like messing with it.

Why not make your own?? If you can tig weld, do up a nice manifold using stainless tubing. This is what I plan on doing.

As a matter of fact, does anyone have a cracked 24v manifold that they want to get rid of? I will pay for shipping. I want to use this as a model to build the stainless manifold....

PM me to let me know..

With the several ATS manifolds I've installed the average egt drop has been less than 50°F

Biggest difference when I put mine on (with the stock HX35) was cool down times...cools down about twice as fast as the stock manifold did.....

My stock manifold had shrunk to the point that the manifold bolts were pulled toward the center of the manifold, kinda catywampus in the "valley" that the bolt passes through.

I can't see spending almost $500 for such a small drop in EGT.
Where have you guys seen the stocker crack? Can they be welded with any success?

There's no reason to replace a good stocker, but if you add larger heavy turbo or exhaust the stock will break quicker and then the ATS cost about the same as stock, then it's a no brainer to go with the ATS. I tried to weld the cracks on a couple differant ones, they would only hold for a month or two.

Thing I've found interesting when replacing a stock manifold where the bolts are obviously very bent from the manifold shrinking is that after you remove the bolts they go straight all on their own. Makes me think you could just loosen the bolts then retorque them to relieve any stress that could lead to a crack.

manifold

i couldnt see a major deal with making your own, if you have access to a machine/fabrication place. get them to cut your turbo and block flange and pipe it together. Just gotta weld like a magician. heheh
