What are your recommendations for shocks

What are your recommendations for shocks? I read on the forum were replacing the factory shocks with a pair of Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks or a pair of Bilstein will dramatically improve the ride of my truck. The question is which brand of shocks to buy and were to purchase them from? I been trying to look around on the internet and haven’t came across any real good deals.

I have a 1999 Dodge 2500 2/4 Cummins which I pull a 24 foot 5th wheel only a couple weeks a year on vacation. Also I do hall several cords of oak wood each year, truck and a 5”X8’ tailor combined, pretty heavy loaded. Most of the time the wife drives the truck back and forth to work about a 9 mile round trip each day.

PS: Any certain modle of shocks to get?

I have Rancho 9000's on my truck now. If you go that route, don't waste your money on the "in-cab remote!" Total cost for the 4 shocks + remote was $567.xx -- I even spent another (roughly) $130 buying teflon hose and brass fittings for the air system to try and get it NOT to leak out! Nothing worked, so it's garbage in my opinion!! I could probably just put the manual adjustment ***** back on the shocks and they would probably be great shocks, however, I feel the need to buy new ones and I am going to try out the Bilsteins! I found them for $259.80 for the set at egauges.com which happens to be just up the street from me so I can just go pick them up!

Either shocks you choose will be a big improvement over the stock ones!

The ranchos are great because if they are too stiff or too bouncy just get under there and crank the **** a little and your all set.I have the explorer pro comps but the ranchos are way better.

Bilstein, or KYB monomax..

You want a high pressure monotube shock to be able to control the axle movement, and the Rancho/Skyjackers, etc... aren't. (twin tube, sometimes low pressure gas)

Chuck,
Just put Rancho RS9000X's on mine. Well worth the money! Ride is VERY much improved. I'm planning on putting a truck camper on mine so the adjustability is a good thing.
And I understand that starting March 1, Rancho is having a buy 3, get one free deal!!

Bilstein here. Shop around on the web. There is a wide range of pricing for any brand out there.

The Rancho's are junk, as are the shocks sold by any other "lift kit" manufacturer out there. I had Rancho's on my last truck, Skyjacker Nitro's on this one, and they both

Bilstien 5100's.......do a search here and you can get the part #'s. The 5100's will definitely give you the most bang for your buck....
