Aftermarket Tachometer

Has anyone added an aftermarket tach and if so what did you add and where did you get it. I can't run it off of the alternator (don't have one) and am using a fluid dampr.
Thanks

you can still use the fluidamper, just have to get a setup that uses a piece of reflective tape on the damper and an optical pickup.

i assume this is for something of a race only nature since you said it doesnt have an alternator.

This is going on a dedicated truck puller and the motor is stripped of all belt driven accs. do you have any experience with a specific tach?

no sorry i don't but i know for a fact i've seen pics of the big time pullers (haisley, scheids etc) and their motors dont have belt accessories, and i remember seeing a tech pick up on the damper.

maybe contact those folks and find out what they use for a tach?

These don't look fancy but are highly accurate and not very expensive.
Run off pulses from an injector line.

I have one of those in my 91' worked great but my only complaint was no backlight. I am sure someone could rig something up to have one.

What tach are you using with that pickup? I was hoping to use the stock magnetic pickup with an aftermarket tach from Autometer or Isspro, actually brand doesn't matter function does.
