Inductive Tachometer?

Hello everyone out there,
My question is, can a inductive tachometer be wired to work on my '91 D250?
Thanks in advance

Re:Inductive Tachometer?

Yes you can. I believe some tachs come with the alternator hookup. Another alternative is the http://www.tinytach.com which takes readings off of the injector pulses. Later models of the first gen trucks 91.5 - 93 I believe, came with a crank sensor with an existing connector you could wire into.

Re:Inductive Tachometer?

Do you know the colors of the wires? I need to get in there and might just as well kill two birds with one stone...
Thanks,
Paul

Re:Inductive Tachometer?

on my 93 D350 has the hook up taped to the wire bundel going to the fuse panel, I pulled my fuse cover off and it was real easy to get to. It is more of a flat type of connector and the spades are in line. There are four spades that goes to the tacometer.. I'm wateing for my ISSPRO tac to come in. I am going to use the 3 3/8th tac. I have the wiring in placed but haven't hooked them up untill I get the tac. I also have the cup mounted. So when the tac gets in I'll wire the tac then pulg the wires in the truck harness.

All first gens with the crank sensor harness installed will be in the location that Ralph (olehippie) mentioned. I believe they started putting them on in 91.5 or 92

Re:Inductive Tachometer?

the problem I am up against is that the previous owner put in a wire harness from another truck. because of this I can not find the four prong adapter for the tach under the dash that everyone is talking about. Where on the engine is the crank sensor and the wires from it?. Hopefully I can find this. :-

It is not on my 91.5 D250. I think they started in 92. :'(
