What mods should I make to a stock auto 2001 tranny to get it good with some HP/TQ upgrades without going crazy for pulls or drags?

Well depending on what shape the tranny is in now and how much HP/TQ you are wanting.........I'd start with a new Torque Converter and a new valve body. Then if you are planning on adding lots of power than you might want to look into the billet shafts.

Man it is totally your call on that one.......there are about 5 big name vendors out there that have the parts you are looking for. These are the two that I would highly recommend talking to........

1. Goerend Brothers ( buy far the best warranty on his products )
2. DTT ( They build awesome stuff but are a little more expensive and don't have as good of a warranty )

another vote here as well. i run his parts and have witnessed first hand his dedicated customer service . I put in a triple disc convertor , valve body , billet input shaft. 48 re front drum new internals and 1 extra set of clutches. all thanks to mcmopar. good friends are hard to find
