1996 questions
Alright fellas i just picked up a 1996 with 107,000 miles on it. Where do i need to start as far as modding this thing? I need to know just the basic stuff i guess. I dont know anything about these motors so any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Basic stuff is guages, fuel plate, governor spring kit (gsk), starwheel, torque converter, valvebody, injectors, turbo, etc.
www.tstproducts.com Parts and installation intsructions there
www.dodgeram.org For lots of good info.
You can do the gsk for free with a couple washers and apparently there is a $30 fuel plate from a seller on ebay now.

O.k.
What about as far as the exhaust goes? What do i need to run my 3rd gen ats turbo, or any bigger exhaust for that matter? I saw the downpipe and its close to the firewall. Different manifold or different downpipe maybe?

IMHO, just a good aftermarket 4" exhaust from the turbo back will work fine for you on your new 96.' Don't waste your money on those high dollar 5" systems. I have never seen them give any more power than the 4"systems.
You should have a "Holset HX-35 Turbo" on that truck with a 12cm exhaust housing. You can go to a 16cm exhaust housing on that stock turbo if you want. Although they are not as popular now, I ran a larger Holset HX-40/16 Turbo on my 1996 Dodge CTD 12 valve for several years and had very good luck with it. I saw an increase of about 27 H.P. going from the stock HX-35/12 to the HX-40/16.

Thanks fellas
Thanks for the replies. I guess im going to start with an airbox, cfm air horn, ats 3 piece manifold, gauges, and cant decide what to do with the fuel system, thinking about getting fass.Im also going to retrofit my 3rd gen ats 2000 on the truck somehow. Im leary of touching the pump since i know crap about them but i will get the dowel pin thingy taken care of first. I will search for destructions.

I'd get the timing advanced a couple of *'s to around 15-16*. Then get a 3kGSK asap. then just cut a 100 plate and push it foward. those will be good pump mods for a while.

Do the pump mods before air horns and exhaust manifolds. Without extra fuel, you won't be happy with putting a bigger turbo on. I wouldn't put a FASS on a 12v until you start cresting 600hp or so. Get a fuel pressure gauge, it will tell you when you need a bigger than stock fuel system. 12v lift pumps move a decent amount of fuel and are reliable.
I'd say get the KDP taken care off, gauges, 3 or 4k gsk, 100 or 0 plate, and bump the timing. Then play with the AFC till you get the smoke control you are after.
