1994 FL70 Freightliner CUMMINS 210HP
Ok, I was surprised to find a 12 valve Cummins in this 30,000# GVWR line haul truck. The CPL is 1552
It is rated at 210 HP. The owner had it converted to a water truck and it is now used as a water tender for a volunteer fire department.
They want more HP and I have been told to just install a #10 camplate and slide it forward.
What is your opinion?
Thanks.

They will cook it with a #10 in that truck. I would say a #12 at the most. With out gauges I would not do any thing and even then I might not, I was with a VFD and worked on all the trucks after a "Mechanic" had worked on them. Most guys that are with a VFD mean well but drive the trucks like they stole it. There is a reason they don't set it to 350hp in those heavy trucks.

its called Twins and NOS... ha ha
in a work truck i would prolly go with some conservative injectors, fuel plate, gov springs if they wind it out at all (i personally love those things, best mod you can make in my opinion besides the fuel plate) if they plan on hauling they should do a turbo cuz the weight of the truck and the weight of all the stuff it hauls could add up to some major EGT's.
O and if they do all that they would need a beefier tranny...

Thanks.
If I do this, guages are first on the list. My biggest concern is not so much the amount of drivers but the age of them. Drive it like you stole it is a part of their DNA makeup.
I could set it up like my truck but I'm sure they would melt it down. I'm looking for a small but noticeable increase in torque.
This truck is used mainly offroad and in the hills and you can walk faster than it will move.
Something that crossed my mind last night was when I was looking at it I noticed that it was equipped with gladhands, tractor protection valve and a trailer parking brake release. All airbrake related equipment on a line haul tractor not a water truck. This truck was in fact a line haul in its first life and was then converted to a water truck. I'm sure when I take a look at the differential I will find the majority of the problem in the ratio of the R&P
Thanks again for your time and opinions

Just slide the plate forward and adjust the afc forward a bit too. Not need to put an aggressive cam plate in there when the stock one has more left in it. Put a boost elbow on the turbo to let it make a little more boost and call it good. All that should be good for a safe 50 HP.

It has an Allison transmission in it. This turbo does not have a boost (elbow) reference where my 96 is. Is there another type of restrictor fitting that goes straight inline?
Thanks.
Thanks.
