Frightliner fl70

I am going to buy a freightliner fl70 with a cat and a sic speed to haul my 4wheelers and 4 wheel drive and pull my camper behind. It has a gvw 0f 33k and I have no cdl. Most of the fl70 trucks that I see are 26k and that would be perfect. Is there any way I can get it lowered to the 26k? I need to drive it 1600 miles to get it home so what can I do if anything.

You can gross it out at 33k. If your state is like Pa. you can register if at a lower GVW. like registering a 1 ton as a 3/4 ton. It is cheaper just don't get caught loading it at the weight you have the truck registered at. Or you can pay for my plane fare and time to drive it back for you. LOL. Keith

Thats the thing I need to drive it back from there to start with. I know places around here can recertify the truck to 26k but its not here it is there. I am hoping the truck place can do it for me.

I doubt the DOT will screw with you without a loaded trailer. As long as you have a bill of sale and are going straight home, I'd chance it. The DOT won't even notice you as it not a class 8 truck that normally needs a CDL driver.

You may or may not be able to re-classify it as an RV. Many states have no GVW limit for RV and no CDL. I had a greyhound bus conversion previously re-titled as an RV. Over 26k and air brakes too. No CDL required. Not for hire of course.
