12v newbie. these mods for a daily driver?
I recently bought a 96 4x4 auto as a daily driver to replace my 89. I've been reading the 12v performance stuff for about a week now and was wondering if the following mods will work together to give me the power I'm looking for without any serious issues to the truck. I already have EGT, boost and Trans temp gauges as well as the Scotty 2 (with hole) from my '02. I want: 370 injectors, 3k GSK, #10 plate, 16.5* timing and 4 or 5" straight-pipe. The only thing Im not sure about is whether to change the turbine housing to a different size and what size that would be and if I need to modify the wastegate. I will be using the truck mostly to drive to work and occasionally pull a car trailer or similiar. When the auto finally goes I plan on converting to the NV4500. Smoke is not really an issue where I live and I rather enjoy it at WOT, but I'm not looking to leave a black trail under light acceleration. Ideas and suggestions appreciated.

Oh yes
wonderful upgrade but its hard on your egts.... You will need a turbo if you drive it like a bat outta H E double hockey stick constantly....
Your mods are a good plan, the 10 is more towing friendly once again, but the 100 is all out awesome..
Its also more enjoyable with an auto trans. at times i wish i had one..... YES I DO.. but for towing you cannot beat the control of a manual.Wastegate.. get a boost control elbow, and u can control that, i dont suggest that you go ahead and plug it up though, Make sure before you tweak with any of this stuff that the truck has the KDP killed and good gauges....
A light trail of smoke or heavy trail of smoke means that its just fuel that isnt being used. Smoke is power you can see, yet cannot use.. It only means ur turbo is inefficient at that level, you can always adjust that with plate positioning and starwheel as well....
For daily driving your mods seem great... I like your ideas.... and straight pipe, well it just sounds awesome, yet dont expect any performance gains out of it, i know i had a banks stinger exhaust (still do in back yard under a tarp in a crate) and it was ok, just muffled the sound too much, straight pipe is all in the same, plus the cooler sound.. A five inch will echo much louder in the pipe, and if you are overfueled with a five inch HOLY COW!!!

I would go with the stage 3 60mm housing and compressor kit from HTT, I just got done installing it, and with a bit more fuel, which u should have no problem with 370's, the spool up is the same, and it helps bring the temps down nicely. Its only about $200, its a good upgrade.

You can keep the same size housing but it will still get hot depending on where your fuel plate is. I ran the 35/40 with the 18.5 and still would get warm. Boost I think the 35/45 is good untill the low 40s.

Boost #'s are 40-41lbs, spool is quick, and Egt's don't get too hot(definatly cooler than the 35 with the 14cm exhaust housing), only get really high in the top of fifth, but all depends on if when u shift in previous gears rpm wise.
All in all, I like it, very good upgrade for the price.
Tim.
