Question 12 valve head swap for 24 valve head

this may sound dumb but if people p pump there 24 valves and get massive power what would happen if u swap ur 12 valve head with a 24 valve head and ran the high rise fuel lines will this work i was told the 24 valves share lifters so a cam swap would not be necessary if the swap would even benifit the motor ive never heard of any one doing this and it seams easier than p pumping a 24 and probably cheaper please help me out here before i do something to ruin my beloved 12 valve
thanks

I think it would not be a benefit because dont the 24v heads flow better???

Dont think they can be inter changed. I may be wrong but I think the bowls in the pistons are in a differant positon. Injectors would be spraying outside the bowls.

I asked Piers about this, he said its still a great debate on that as to which will make more power. Cheaper to build a 12v head, he said. Springs are cheaper, no bridges to upgrade. I'd love to know though. I'm gonna have a cracked 24v pretty quick, so I could make a hybrid out of the two on the cheap.

I know its been done before, but not sure on the results. I'll have to run the 12v for a while, so I have a good baseline if I switch heads.

is it possible to fix the possible problem with timing or would it just be better to stuff the block with 24v pistons a diesel mechanic told me they had the same blocks just diff heads so a piston swap wouldnt be to difficult just some food for thought

12 valves have the injector at an angle in the head, thus spraying fuel in a partial oval, due to one side being further from the piston. 24 valves are mounted dead center and straight up and down. At a minimum, the pistons will need to be changed along with the head. There has been much debate to which head will make more power. A fully ported/polished and gone over 12v head will flow roughly 200 cfm, whereas a fully done up 24v will do about 225 cfm IIRC. Those figures are from a performance shop site, can't remember which one and if those were the exact numbers. On paper the 24 valve would seem to be better, but for other reasons already mentioned, including cost, the 12 valve head would be the way to go. However, the fastest rails are running P-pumped 24's.
