Windshield repair

My wife's Honda Accord windshield was hit by a flying rock kicked up from another vehicle and has a crack about the size of a small pea. Has anyone used a windshield repair business with success?

I used one of the D-I-Y kits from an auto parts store on a double chip with a small crack in the middle. You can still see the damaged area a little if you know where to look, but the van passed inspection and the crack is in the area swept by the wipers - so the inspection mechanic didn't notice it. I was pretty impressed, I didn't think it would do that well.

Yes. My dad used to own a side business called Windshield Wizard here in Virginia. Most insurance companies pay so the owner doesn't have any out of pocket expenses. If it is just a star or bullseye they are easy to repair. He would take a small dremel tool and drill out the center. Then he would inject some type of acrylic (expensive stuff to buy) into the crack. Then he would use some tool to fill it and take out the air. Let it dry and take a razor blade and scrape off the excess. He work looked GREAT. Call up some local people and I'd go for it.

I used a $10 DIY kit from Wally world on a dime size bulls-eye and was pleased. My concern was that it would spread if left untreated and the epoxy that I injected has kept it stable for two years now. You can still see the spot in the windshield but it's not overly distracting and more importantly, it hasn't grown.

I have used them a couple of times and been very happy with the result. Just look in your local yellow pages. Most only charge like $20-30 or so, but don't wait to do it....because the crack might spread and may not be repairable then.
