What RPM'S do you shift at?
What RPM'S do you shift at?
To keep the power band through shifting, my truck seems to like 2000-2200 rpms as a time to shift. My buddy has a 97' ctd 5-spd and he never goes over 1600-1700 rpms. If I shift at that rpm my truck seems " DOGGISH". What RPMS do you shift at and what year, eng., 5spd-6spd, do you have? My buddy seems to think I am over reving while shifting.

;D I shift at 3k. but thats after the goiv kit. I used to shift when ever the rpms would stop going up. I guess 2500 or so.
get the gov kit and really wind her out when you shift.

The 24 Valve Cummins considers 1800-2100 RPM to be it's "Happy Place" ;D
1600 RPM is getting close to "Lugging" the engine, especially under load.

Agree with the Shovel guy, but want to add:

Also depends on conditions -- mostly uphill/downhill & load. I shift anywhere from 1700-2300 RPM, depending. The closer to 1800 the better, in my opinion, because I like to give those NV5600 synchronizers a break.

GP

Normal driving I shift a 1,800 to 2,000rpms, If I feel like making some smoke I take it to 3,200 and stompshift it into 3rd, the I try and keep the backend from passing the frontend.

Re:What RPM'S do you shift at?
Being an Auto, just let it go into gear when it wants to. BUT, if I am going through the gears, then I bring it right up to 2500 rpm and hit the next gear leaving nice Black Smoke pouring out the back and the tires just getting loose a little. Truck grabs and away I go, only to do it again in the next gear. But, If I am brake locking it. Then I shift around 3000 rpm or so. To busy watching the Pyro & which way the truck is heading before hitting the next gear. Also good to have it pointed straight before doing so.... LOL
