4000 Rpm, Why Do You Think You Need It?

I'm talking to all of the mild CTD owners who think they're going to gain something revving to 4000rpm. There are only a handful of built CTDs on this site that can even handle and build power at high rpms, yet everyone thinks they need these tunes??? I feel my truck is now built to handle the revs, but I see no need to go past 3500-3700rpms. I learned 1st hand what over-revving and heat can do to these engines, what am I missing here?

I think the main reason for this would be useable RPM's that to me is one of the few downfalls of a diesel engine. The higher you can rev the faster you can go and the longer you can stay in a given gear before having to change gears. That being said, your point still stands that if you arent making any power at the higher revs, there really isnt any point. The only other thing i can think of would be the amazing sound of a cummins winding out to 4k haha.

Simple I want Rpms for wheels speed. The extra wheel speed I get out of another 500Rpms is worth the extra feet it will carry you. Any way you can get wheel speed it is worth it, with the supporting mods. I think I have enough mods to suport 4k. Just alot of guys see 230hp 4k tune they are actumatically thinking they can throw that on thier truck rev higher and blow more smoke that is why it's a good idea to be vin locked.

I don't need it. I very rarely see 3500 rpms as it is.

because it's cool... man you didn't know !

If you can hold a gear longer.... you have more wheel speed and better rpms into the next shift instead of having to build them back up.

Ok, I get it for pulling, but there's very few that care about pulling. And most of these trucks power curve is on the downward slope unless it's a built engine. Kman9090, there's very few w/ the mods you've got, yet they want their 4000rpm!

I think it's because it's the latest and greatest thing for our trucks.

People may want it but, without the supporting mods will never get it. another reason for it being a VIN locked tune, it protects people from themselves. I don't think Bob or Marco or anyone wants to see someone damage their truck and it protects them from just anyone getting a hold of it.

I've seen just as many request just the TNT and are happy with it. It has been said many times.... " R " is for race and that's where the higher rpm's will be more beneficial.

yep, that would be the reason for me. with a 6 speed in the 1/4 mile every extra 100 rpm helps

Even though it's on a downward slope, if at 4k it's even close to the number at whatever rpm you will drop to when it shifts, it is still beneficial. I hate it when I read an article where a mag is testing a car and they shift it at peak rpm claiming that is the optimum. Even if it drops in power heading to red line, you are still in a lower gear with that torque multiplier. I'd rather be at 500hp from 3500-4000 in 2nd than 500hp from 2000-2500 in 3rd.

I can probably count the times my truck has seen 3000 rpm on both hands. Unless something goes terribly wrong, my truck will never see 4000 rpm! Not worth the risk to me.

I personally don't want or need 4k rpm....it scares me and i don't want the added expense of building it to handle the 4k, nor the additional wear and tear on the motor (whole hp/hrs issue)...only time i see redline is on burnouts / spinning the tires....

I want it but need springs first. My truck has no trouble hitting 3750 with the diablo on extreme and my juice reminds me that it has seen over 3900 at some point. With some springs and more air I could use it.
