Vacation dest help

I need some camping ideas if anyone has any. This will be the last vacation before school starts and I'm looking at possibly north AL. I need a state park that's in the mtns and on a lake or river so the kids can swim...while I do nothing except cook and drink a couple of beers. It'll be nice not having the boat or anything to detract from my relaxation. We will have bicycles and that's it.

AL just came to mind but will consider anywhere within 8hrs from south AR.

You could make it to the beach (Galveston/Pt. Aransas) in 8hrs or less from there....I think. We're going next weekend!

What's wrong with DeGray Lake?

Or is it so close and you've already been there many times and are looking for something different? If so, what about one of the many parks on Sam Rayburn Resorvoir (in Texas) or Toledo Bend (on the border of Texas and Louisiana).

Degray is only 50miles and won't really feel like a vacation, plus...kinda burnt out with it anyway. I really love TN/northern AL but don't know which parks are the preferred ones. It looks like this vacation idea is falling apart by the minute cause of wrenches getting thrown at me but hopefully I can still manage something.

Yes, go somewhere and do something you've never done before! I'd even recommend Lake Texoma!

Have you been to Petit Jean, Greers Ferry or Mtn View lately? Mount Nebo, if you want to test your towing skills.

I haven't been to Greers Ferry lately...hmmmm. Mt Nebo is out cause my TT is 30' and I don't want to pass my trailer going uphill. Decisions, desisions...
