My Maternal Grandfather, who passed away about 20 years ago worked on the rails. I can just imagine what he would say about this. I grew up next to the tracks and every summer when they would come through I'd take him and the crew some cold drinks and lunch. Keith
Small town in Pa. about 60 miles NE of Philly. A place called Mertztown. My Grandfather worked on the crew out of Alburtis, Pa. He retired from the RR. That was back when the only entertainment my Grandparents had was sex.
My Mother comes from a family of 17 kids. Keith

Depends on how many main lines there are. If theres more than one main line to run frieght, they can lay 1/4 mile and up in one shot. Not too often there replacing ballest, rail, and ties at one time. Usually ment for adding a new main line. Certain branch locations in need of everything new, they can lay miles and miles in a week. Talk about an expense!!!
