Sorry about that situation happening to a family member.

That said, I also take issue with these "keyless" cars. At least with a traditional ignition switch, you at least have the option of manually turning the car off. It's why I will NOT buy a car or truck that does not have a traditional Key & ignition switch device.
96 12V, thanks. After that I don't think I want my wife to have a push button vehicle either. Between that and the remote start snafu with these Toyotas her mom is still going to buy another one.

It's one thing for me to be driving a defective vehicle and a whole other one to have the wife driving one with the three boys in the vehicle. She gets a new one either every year or every other year because I just want something reliable and safe with the latest safety technology and comforts for her and the boys. Her mom is only around 5'2" and probably 120 or less. I just can't see here manhandling anything to get it to stop let alone keep a cool head and be able to overcome something that weighs 3-7k nor do I want anyone in that situation. If it was me who cares, Lord knows I've had some real piles over the years and have had lots go wrong. One time in a 72 sport custom pickup I had the hood fly up and wrap aorund the windshield at about 90 at night. That was good one on a two lane. I've had m/c's, atv's and snowmobiles all have stuck throttles at one point or another and that's pretty fun and will get your heart pumping for a second or two. All in all I don't think it's such a big deal but when it's close to home it makes you wonder.

Timmay2, Good post and links. Toyota is the same as all others. Deny everything publicly when they know they have a safety issue. Blame it on anything they can even user error until it blows up in their face. Only at that point do they make a real attempt to fix the problem and rush out the PR to save face.
