I guess you are right.... sad but true.... generation next??? I guess it's called?? my youngest sister is 21 (I'm 18 years older) and every problem in her life is caused by someone else... or so she thinks. Every speeding ticket is the officers "out to get her", I got several speeding tickets when I was young (deserved many more) but I knew who was driving - I also knew who was gonna pay the fine but it took the insurance company rates to slow me down...
I'll tell you a true story. In May of 1994 a robbery/homicide was committed at a business in the city I worked in. The call was dispatched as a burglar alarm to the beat car and I was dispatched as the backup. I was about a mile away. It was about 0230 on a clear, calm night. Traffic was normal for that time of morning. I responded without any emergency equipment operating because my line of sight distance to the business was less than a half mile and the sound carries quite well in that area. I arrived and met the bad guy head on leaving the business. After a high speed car chase and a foot chase that ended in the woods, I caught my bad guy. I do not believe I would have had I responded with lights and siren. This crime was particularly bad as the victim was known to most of us. She was a wife, a daughter and a mother also. She was stabbed to death with a survival knife. Her sternum, one rib and a bone in her forearm were broken during the attack and she did know her attacker.
If I had to do it again, I would and I wouldn't change a thing. Those of you think want to gripe about what law enforcement does or doesn't do why don't you get off your butts and take a crack at it. It isn't as black and white or cut and dried as you think.

Needless to say, I don't work in the field anymore and make far more money than I would have if I had stayed - too much BS and politics and not enough getting the job done IMHO. You should see the paperwork up here just to pull your sidearm from the holster, nevermind firing - at least 13 years ago anyway. I sure hope things have changed.

I have been where you fear to be
I have seen what you fear to see
I have done what you fear to do
All these things, I have done for you
I am the man you lean upon
The man you cast your scorn upon
The man you bring your troubles to
All of these men I've been to you
The man you ask to stand apart
The man you feel should have no heart
The man you call “the man in blue”
But I'm just a man, just like you
And through the years I've come to see
That I'm not what you ask of me
So take this badge and take this gun
Will you take it?...Will anyone?
And when you watch a person die
And hear a battered child cry
Then do you think that you can be
All these things you ask of me?
