Roadmaster back up camera input?

Anyone here own one of these Roadmaster backup camera's? Here is the company's url: http://tinyurl.com/k4f9b I saw one at Walley World and was thinking of trying it out. Anyone know if these things will hold up?? I like those cd in dash car stereo's, with a video display - which are back up camera compatible. They are pricey though, starting at around $260 and up (without the camera unit).

maybe with a cap or inbed camper, other than that it seems somewhat useless in a truck.

I have good mirrors for backing.

The idea that has crossed my mind, providing that the picture quality is good enough, is to get something like that for the boy in the windowless sleeper to be able to check out the scenery between video games and DVDs.

I have also thought about maybe a periscope.

He gets so occupied back in there with games and movies that I sometimes forget he is with me.

The big rig horse-haulers have close-circuit TV to keep an eye on the horses and grooms inside the trailer.

I like the camera concept for hooking up to the trailer, when I don't have a companion to guide me. I hate getting in and out of the cab, 5 or so times to make sure of where I am. I tried those magnetic poles to line up the ball with your trailer hitch. Didn't work so good. Once I am hitched I have no problem backing up the trailer.

Works great for backing up to hook up the trailer. Put the ball right under the hitch, first try...

Seems like depth perception would be difficult to tell on a 2.5" screen though.

I was judging how far to back up by the shadow of the hitch over the ball. Your right, depth perception is hard, but, lining up to the trailer is real easy.

I like my back up camera got mine from www.rvcams.com. The guy there was really helpfull. He even talked me into a cheeper model. It works even at night, without the backup lights. the depth precepition was a little hard getting use to, but after a few times had no problem. Mounted it next to receiver hitch below the bumper. I use the monitor on trips for dual viewings for the kids. My cost was somehwere around $300. I would do it (IMO).

Sure coulda used one yesterday. Had to hook up to a trailer inside a tight garage & put my wife back there to guide me in. No matter how many times I show her, she still ends up looking like she is trying to swat flies when I get within 2 ft of trailer...

Broncobilly one more thought on your camera. For good viewing size does matter. A bigger lense will bring in more light. The same for a monitor, I have a 5" monitor and workes great. The website you have on top doesn't show the specifications but the monitor & camera look pretty small. I thing it would work in the day but might get real grainy at night. Just keep in mind you will be backing up day, night , backing into dark shady garage from bright sun. rain ect. You "usually" get what you pay for and the camera needs to be water resistant too.

Stay away from wireless cameras, you will never get as good of a picture as with a wired camera.
It is easy to run the cable from the camera to the monitor, simple as a light.

I install CCTV systems and I see people try to use the wireless units all of the time with unsatisfactory results.
Unless you get one that is in the microwave region or a laser transceiver the picture will be poor.

Thanks all for the great input on my "backup camera" post! I have decided to go with a JVC dvd/cd player, which has a 3" monitor. Jim Lane has the same unit, and it looks like it will work great for a backup camera. The image quality on that unit is amazing
