Putin on terrorism....
Putin on terrorism....
Recalling the attempts to appease Adolf Hitler in the 1930s, Putin said there could be no "bargaining" with terrorists.
"Every concession leads to a widening of their demands and multiples the losses," Putin was quoted as saying.
"In this war there is no rear or neutral zone, and where terrorists don't meet the necessary resistance, their bases and coordination centers crop up," Putin said.
-----------------------
According to the Russian leader, tragic events in Beslan, Jakarta, Madrid, Moscow, Istanbul, New York, Washington and other cities of the world, confirm that the terrorists are united into a large international network. Only by uniting the efforts of the entire international community is it possible to defeat terrorism, Mr. Putin stressed.
Yury Baluyevsky, Senior Defense Minister of the Russian Federation and Chief of the General Staff, said on September 8 that Russian armed forces would launch preemptive strikes against terrorist bases. “Preventive strikes on these bases will be carried out regardless of what region they are located in,” he stressed. “It does not mean that we are planning nuclear strikes. The forms and methods will depend on the circumstances,” Baluyevsky said.

Excellent! It's about time they reverted back to tried and true methods of dealing with these cretins. If only we'd do the same thing, but the tree huggers would have a fit if it ever came to pass.
That was my first thought also, but I hope it does not get out of hand. Putin is also removing the Russian vote for the Governors and will instead appoint them. This will remove some of the democracy that they have gained. I just hope it does not get out of hand. There is also a rift growing between Great Briton, the US and Russia. This may not play out real well. If the countries can work together to fight the terrorists it will be positive, but some tense times could be in the near future. The attacks on Russia are definately an esclation of the situation. There is also turmoil within Russia over it. The terrorists sure are good at starting in-fighting within countries.
That is their real specialty. Destroy a country from within, using the fear and malcontent of the residents. Each time terrorists can swing a vote or disrupt a public event, they win a small battle. Another term that would apply could be "Tentionists."
It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!

Putin is correct in what he is doing to control the terrorists, however this could also be the opportunity he has been waiting for. Don't forget, Putin is ex KGB and it is my belief that he still is old time communist and the old time communists still have the dream of wanting to restore Russia to what it was many years ago.
I can't prove what I have just said, but time will tell if my theory is correct. Anybody else have similar thoughts?

In my opinion what Putin proposes isn't much different than our own Patriot Act.
Whether this is good or bad depends on your point of view, personally I don't really care as the Patriot Act does little to affect me.
