MP3 players
Lookin to get a nice mp3 player for myself
Name brand?
Whats best?....I have dial up so won't be doing any downloads from here, but have friends with 1000's of songs, so do I have to have same Brand?
16/32 gb? I heard anything bigger is a hard drive so thats out for me, plus I wouldn't ever need that much.

Aktallpaul, I just got my first MP3 player a few weeks ago as a gift from the wife. I got an Ipod Nano. I think its 8gig or something like that, it's whatever the current Ipod nano is. It's nice, works well for me. I can use the head phones at home when working in the shop or plug it into the stereo in my truck while driving. It's pretty easy to use and easy to dload music to. Hope this helps you!

If your in the 16 to 32 gig range, you have a lot of choices.
I like the Sony Walkman S-Model. The ipod is ok, I have a classic with an 80 gig hdd.
In that size range, all the media players are rich in features.

DTR's Cow Boss
I got a roxio 4gig that is a off the wall chepo but it serves its purpose as a beater so I don't worry about ruining it. I have also figured out that I can use my black berry as a mp3 player also and hooking it to my stereo in the truck.

If you want one to move from home to auto to boat ect get an I pod. They are a little more money but more accessories available. If it's just for casual listening with earphones or using a 1/8 to rca adapter for home stereo save a few bucks and buy a sandisk. My Sandisk sansa works great while I'm mowing the grass at the camp and I can hook it up on the boat with a simple rca adapter. And even without a fancy charger/ stereo adapter, battery life has never been a problem.

Phones make good mp3 players if 2 to 4 gig is the range your looking for. problem is, you end up running your phone dead listening to music.

ipod and zune players are cool but i hate the software that you use for them. I got a zen stone 8gb and it's super easy to work with. i can even use it as a jump drive. the software is simple drag and drop, no drama at all.

Steer clear of any that uses a "proprietary" software. MP3 is the generic standard. If you use Windows Media Player to rip your music, make sure you use the MP3 setting and turn off "rights" switch.

I like Ipod. They are pretty reasonablely priced for all they do. Very easy to find accessories for, and you can buy a refurb off ebay for pretty cheap and then go to squaretrade and get a warranty for like 10 bucks that will replace it if it breaks.

I'd get a used iPod off of ebay
They are somewhat of a pain to learn how to properly transfer songs.
I have 2 used iPod nanos, and they work excellent.
Both are only 4gb (around 800 songs)
Plus I have the Premier DEH-P590IB (truck) and a DEH-P510UB (car) cd players which will play and charge any iPod at the same time.
I don't like any apple products.. but the iPod. (maybe the iPhone if I could afford one and the service plan)

Im getting the wife a sony for christmas, but looking at the features, it looks nice.
I went with the Ipod classic for the storage capacity. At the time, 80 gig was either ipod or zune. There are a few other players now.
The ipod doesn't have a problem with mp3. just need to run everything thru itunes. you can use the ipod as a drive, but if you copy music to the drive, it doesn't show up in the play list.

I absolutely love my 30gb Zune. And I've heard the Zune HD is really sweet, too.
The only problem I have with it is dealing with their software you have to use to load music on to it, like someone already mentioned. Which makes little sense, Zune, is Microsoft, and so is Windows Media player, you would think they'd design them to interact. It's sort of a pain, and unless you have a pretty new computer, it bogs it down big time. My older computer won't even recognize the thing. The nice thing is, if your friends have a Zune, you can wirelessly trade music back and forth
Now my brother has a cheaper Samsung ( I think), and its very easy to use. The menu is a little different and takes a little getting used to. The nice thing is you can use media player to sync music to it, don't have to install theirs.
I personally would take the route of finding one that doesnt need its own software. that way, you can just goto your friend's house, plug ur MP3 player into their computer, and get all their stuff, without having to install anything.
