I would've thought the same thing you did ... just trying to be neighborly. Grumpy ol' bat across the street probably just needed someone new to gripe about and you opened the door.

I'd slap her ol box back up there, hidden by your nice new one and be done with her. When you give your side of the story to the other neighbors ... they should understand.

I don't sweat what our mailbox looks like ... can't see it from my house, it's 1/2 mile away on somone elses land .

Well, this makes the whole thing simple! "Get your property off MY property!" Done.

We have a nasty ol' battle ax that lives on this property who is just like that. Worse maybe. I gave up trying to win her over, now it's just a matter of how hard I can wind her up! Gotta make the most of the situation... if I can't change it I might as well have fun with it!

I had a similar problem and fixed it with a heavy gauge steel, (3/8" thick), mailbox that I made myself. Welded the ends of nails, points up, all over the outside of it so it looked like a porcupine with a crew-cut if you looked at it closely. Apparently, the mailbox bashers had their baseball bat ripped outta their hands when it stuck to the nails, because we found a partially shattered bat about 15 feet from the mailbox one morning. Had a fair amount of blood on it too!

The Mailbox may be in what you feel is your yard. However it is probably on the right of way for the road. You should have gotten a hold of her first before you did anything. She probably has every legal right to have it there. Not trying to make anyone mad just my .025
