Just bought a bike

Well, since the wifey is not appreciative of this event, I had to tell someone. She said it looks nice. Nice? Its not "nice", its engineering art. Silly amounts of magnesium, forged aluminum, thoughtful efficient designs, monster brakes and amazing fun. The bike is a brand new 2010 KTM RC8 (I could not afford the R or Akrapovic version). Currently its in PA, but I'm getting it shipped to ND and then go pick it up. 155 bhp and it weighs 404 lbs. Mid 10 second bike in the quarter and about 177 on the top end should keep my speed needs in check.

Bring on the track days!!!

This is what is "should" look like. Its an awesome machine, 75 degree vtwin, radial Brembo brakes with radial master cylinder, WD suspension, 10,500 rpm redline!!!

It's nothing but pure fun!. I loved my Ducati Supersport every minute I had it.

It's not the power that gets you in trouble, it's the brakes. It'll stop on a dime and get change back.

Be sure to post up pics.

Well, it took longer than I though, but we finally got the bikes, here we are loading up at Portal ND. A friend bought a 2009 BMW HP2 Sport (the serial number indicates it was the last HP2 sport ever made) with 600 miles on it and a carbon fibre slipper clutch. So we picked up both at the same time.

The round trip took 22 hours, we averaged 42 mph, which included 1 fuel stop, lunch and supper breaks (both sit down meals), loading up (2 hours) and a 3 hour wait at the border (we may, or may not have exceeded the speed limit at times and we averaged 19 mpg hand calculated over the whole trip). The one border guy I had on the Canadian side was a general poo poo head and his supervisor actually took him aside and told him to smarten up. They did not want that RC8 to come into Canada (its not on the RIV list due to KTM trying to protect their inept dealers up here), but I had all the paperwork and low and behold its now in my garage. they also harassed my friend because they did not believe he paid $17,500 for the BMW that sold for $35,000 and only 600 miles on it.

The bike is amazingly light for a 1148CC bike, its small and feels like a 600 (weighs 406 lbs). Its pretty quick, the handling is good, but from the factory is has too much preload in the rear and not enough out front. The Brembo brakes are impressive. True 1 finger braking without being grabby and amazing feel. The bike is comfortable compared to other sport bikes and yes I always wear a helmet and full leathers riding even when its 90+ outside.

I used to work at Wilsons motorcycles and we were the only dealer in the valley who sold these, truly an amazing piece of engineering.

VERY nice!!!!!

Please be safe. I ride, and I've seen too many friends sacrifice comfort for safety, and it ended up costing them. Not saying ride in a tank, just be careful.

Oh, I always ride with full leathers, a full face helmet, riding boots and gloves no matter how hot it is. I've seen too many people get scraped of the road because they were not wearing proper gear.

The reason I'm in that attire is the wifey wanted to take some pictures before I put it in the garage.
