Question How to Clean Exhaust mark stains......??

... off of Aluminum wheels ??

Huh ?? you say ?

Yea, I got a shorty exhaust and (1) BLACK RR wheel!

Would Kerosene be a good product to remove the exhaust stain from an Aluminum wheel or what ??

I just saw you are trying to get rid of that K1. Try "easy off" for the exhaust stains. Get the fume free version if you want to retain your normal lung capacity.

Easy off or try some blue magic or the mother's power ball or possibly try using a clay bar. If all else fails, wet sand it and polish it.

I got some aluminum wheel cleaner once that would take brake dust off. I'm sure it would work fine for the soot. I don't remember the name though so I'm probably not much help.

Soap and water with a good stiff brush would probably work also along with some elbow grease.

There is an aluminum wheel cleaner at NAPA that has an acid base. If you do not let it sit but about 30 secs, it will not harm your wheels. Spray it on, it will foam a lil, you might hav to make two quick passes over it to get it to foam. Then Wash with a rag, and spray off good with water, and look at your results. I have always been pleased with the reults on the brake dust encountered.

Nev-r-dull or Bartender's Friend will work also if you don't mind putting a little elbow grease into it. That's what I used to use to get the exhaust off my back bumper, and use it to keep my wheels sparkling.

Aluminum rims + Easy-Off oven cleaner = BAD news ...
ALuminum and caustic soda do NOT go together.. It'll eat the HELLo ut of aluminum.

Some acid based aluminum cleaner/brighteners have dilute HydroFluoric acid in it.. Treat that stuff with caution. Can cause really ugly delayed burns to your bod. Strips protective anodizing off like lightning.

To get the exh stains off of CHROME, I use WD-40 and very fine steelwool pads. Like magic . Spray, rub lightly, wipeoff...

I used acid on a transfer tank I was cleaning up to weld about a month ago, it's just mill finish aluminum, not polished. It did well, but I don't know how it comarares in nastyness to Easy Off. I would amagine it would be tough on anodized surfaces.

Okay, disregard what I said about the Oven Cleaner

I took my trailer through a semi-truck wash and used the "acid" bath to get teh exhaust stains off it, did a good job on my wheels too. Its a concentrated citric based acid, didnt hurt teh wheels any, bu tmine arent polished or chromed...

If you do that be prepared to do a lot of polishing , as Easy Off removes the anodizing/clear coat off aluminum. Been there/done that, trial and error but turned the piece of clear coated aluminum I was working on black where it removed the clear coat. Nevertheless, caused me to spend and extra hour and a half trying to remove it. Never dull is a better option, we use it for almost everything the Navy calls "bright work". Sea spray/salt air tarnished brass can be a witch to bring back to luster
