STAINS!

This ain't the most interstin' post but here we go.........

Washed down the CTD last week at a local car wash. Driving home I looked at my right hand and noticed a bunch of brown gummy "tar" like stains. >
I assumed that it was from the handle of the sprayer and blew it off. When I got home and walked through a few rooms I look down and both boots had left tar prints all over my light gray carpet at home...... > >
........looked at my boots and sure e'nuff....had gobs of tar or somthing on my boots and carpet...... >
........then, my worst fear came to light.....
.......went down and had the crud on my CTD carpet when I moved my truck prior to putting the floor mats back in!
I have dark gray flooring but it still looks awefull.. HELP! :'( Whats the best way to get that stuff out without bleaching the carpet in my truck??????? ??? Anybody have an idea of what that gunk was? Thanks!!!!

Re:STAINS!

I find it amusing that you are more worried about the carpet in the truck than in your house. Most of us on here are probably the same way

Try some Simple Green - after I bought my truck I lifted the mats to find grease ground into the tan carpet. Spray on a good amount of Simple Green, let it sit for a while, then scrub with a scrub brush. After that, use a rag and some warm water to lift the Simple Green & grease out. Its worth a shot.

Re:STAINS!

If the Simple Green does not work then test a SMALL area with general purpose odorless paint thinner. Use a small brush and scrub it on. Leave for only a minute then wash it out with dish detergent thinned with water. Scrub the detergent in as well. If possible wet vacuum everything out. You can also try using a can of tar remover available at Wall Mart etc. Whatever you do, test a small area first.
Let us know what works.

Re:STAINS!

Mexstan and Kandgo probably have better solutions than the Simple Green - the SG worked for me....as I couldnt use the other due to having a tan carpet. Im sure it will come out for you, if all else fails used some BUG & TAR remover.

Re:STAINS!

I don't know if you can find it where you live, but there's a product called TKO Orange that works very good on stuff like that. You usually have to dilute it. Check in pet stores. Works great on dogstains on your carpet too. Gets rid of the trace smells so the dog won't go there again. Same story, test a small area first.

Re:STAINS!

Have to add my "recipe". Use some of the white lanolin based hand cleaner like "Go-JO" or "D&L" hand cleaner. You know, the white stuff you use to clean your hands after working on the truck. Put it on and work it in with your fingers. Let it sit over night if you have to.

Next day, use water and a terry cloth to absorb the residue, then use either blue majic spray capet cleaner from wal-mart (sold in the auto section) which is basically a spray with alcohol in it. (yes you can use ubing alcohol also). This will remove the hand cleaner residue.

It worked wonders for me when I had axle grease on my boots and walked into the house. Repeat as/if necessary, and always do a test spot first to make sure it does not harm the carpet. I have done this many times and have yet to have a problem. Works wonders on clothes also. Good Luck, Kevin

You might want to try this
http://www.goof-off.com/goofoff/PRODUCTS/goormvr.html. I 've used it and it works pretty good.
Good luck

Re:STAINS!

Try some brake cleaner. We use it to remove stains from upholstery. Try on a hidden area first, but i have never had a problem with it.

Re:STAINS!

Be careful with the oxy clean. It can create chemical heat and damage the carpet fibers. Also don't rub the carpet or you will "friz" the carpet fibers. Just blot the area, if you need to work whatever cleaner you use into the fibers, just use your bare fingers. Good luck, Kevin
